Post-Brexit freight preparations on roads around Port of Liverpool

Preparations are being made to manage freight traffic accessing the Port of Liverpool when the UK leaves the European Union on 1 January 2021.

Several existing free HGV parking bays around Regent Road are temporarily being converted to ‘permit holders only’, along with the introduction of two new similarly controlled bays on nearby Blackstone Street and Bankfield Street.

It is expected most hauliers will have all the necessary paperwork in place and should not need to await clearance, so the change is being made just in case there is a need to stack vehicles at strategic locations around the port.

The parking controls will come into operation from the 1st January 2021 and are only expected to be needed for a month, although the change does allow for them to be in place for up to 18 months

Only HGV’s displaying the relevant permit will be allowed to wait or park in these bays, at all times, and will be managed by stewards.
