A comprehensive database of professional and emerging artists in St Helens Borough is being created by the Council’s Arts and Library Services to help the local creative industry to find new work and commissions.
If you rely on your creative work as a source of income, you’re encouraged to complete a short online survey and provide your contact details, which the service will hold securely. You could then be contacted by the council about potential commissions that may suit you, or receive notifications about creative work opportunities for other organisations.
The launch of the professional artists’ database comes as the cultural and creative industries nationally are facing financial uncertainty in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, with losses of revenue and work opportunities.
Councillor Anthony Burns, St Helens Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health, Leisure, Libraries, Arts and Heritage, said: “We know the negative impact that COVID-19 has had to the local creative sector. With this in mind we want to ensure that we’re able to communicate with freelance creatives and arts organisations that rely on their income from this source.
“By creating this database, we’ll be able to link many talented local people with potential work opportunities and commissions by the council and other organisations, supporting our borough’s creative industry through these difficult times and into the future.”

A further survey of amateur and hobby artists will be carried out in the future.
