Public invited to attend Stockport Community Innovation Hub

Greater Manchester Police is holding an event this weekend to strengthen its links with the region’s Black communities.

The Community Innovation Hub event in Stockport will be led by Superintendent Rachael Harrison, GMP’s lead for Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Strategic, alongside Dr Angela Herbert MBE, director of IOTC-Solutions and an independent consultant who has worked with other UK police forces.

Superintendent Harrison said: “We held a very successful event in Moss Side, Manchester, in October in response to the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s Police Race Action Plan published in May.

“The feedback and ideas that came from the Moss Side event are already being progressed.

“Greater Manchester Police is committed to serving Black communities and finding out how we can work together

“We want individuals of all ages, in particular youth, to come to the event in Stockport and help us shape the future of policing in Greater Manchester.

“We hope this will be a catalyst for real change and help us to understand the needs of black communities, build our credibility and authenticity in the way that we serve.

“Outcomes from both events will be used to support our learning and create a model that can be used across all of our districts and made available for use by forces across England and Wales.”

The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) published its Police Race Action Plan (Improving Policing for Black People) in May 2022 which affirmed GMP’s vision to be a police service that is anti-racist and trusted by Black people.

The plan was developed jointly by the College of Policing and the NPCC working in collaboration with Black communities and partners

GMP’s second Community Innovation Hub will be held on Saturday 26 November at Stockport Guildhall from 10am-4pm.

Everyone is welcome to attend and contribute to this opportunity to collaborate.

Free refreshments and a hot lunch will be provided, plus all attendees will receive a £20 high street shopping voucher as a thank you for their contributions
