RLWC2021 makes huge impact in Warrington

Warrington continued to build the excitement and momentum for the Rugby League World Cup 2021 (RLWC2021) with a special day of activities, on Tuesday 21 June.

Warrington’s Host Impact Day kicked off with a business breakfast at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, where over 100 businesses enjoyed a breakfast in the company of rugby league legends Adrian Morley and Jodie Cunningham to connect and learn more about the upcoming tournament.

This was followed by a walking rugby taster session in the sunshine outside the Town Hall, a thrilling schools rugby league event at Victoria Park, photo opportunities with the RLWC2021 and trophies at Orford Jubilee Hub, with the day concluding with a visit to Warrington Youth Zone – where over 200 children had the opportunity to have their photos taken with the trophies and took part in a range of activities.

Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Jean Flaherty said: “I was pleased to be able to open Warrington Host Impact Day at the business networking event and had the pleasure of watching the rest of the day’s events unfold as people came together to celebrate rugby league and the important role Warrington will play in this year’s tournament.

“The Host Impact Day was a special occasion for everyone involved and I have no doubt that it has really helped to create a buzz as we look forward to the competition getting started in October.”

Cabinet member for leisure and community, Cllr Tony Higgins, said: “The Host Impact Day was a great opportunity for us to create a network of advocates for the tournament, encouraging local businesses, children and residents to get involved and spread the word about the valuable part Warrington will play in this year’s tournament.

“The day had really did have something for everyone. We had businesses and organisations getting together to talk about how they can support the tournament, residents sampling walking rugby and our young people celebrating rugby league through the nines event and the Youth Zone activities.

“We are a proud rugby league town, and the Host Impact Day proved it. Bring on the tournament!”

Dean Hardman, Tournament Director for the RLWC2021 said: “It was a pleasure to speak at today’s Business Breakfast in Warrington, as part of their Host Impact Day, and to have so many people in the room wanting to support us.

“There was definitely a feeling of enthusiasm and excitement for the forthcoming Rugby League World Cup, and I know the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington will make an excellent venue for the three group games as well as the men’s quarter final they are scheduled to host.”
