Road closures this Sunday for Manchester Day

Manchester Day 2022: Created for Young People, by Young People

This weekend sees the return of Manchester Day and its now legendary Parade. Motorists should be advised that roads in the city centre will be subject to closure during the day of Sunday, 19 June.

The following roads will be closed on Sunday 19 June: 

7am–7pm Liverpool Road (from Potato Wharf to Deansgate) 

11am–4pm Deansgate (Whitworth Street West to Victoria Street) 

St Mary’s Gate (Deansgate to Cross Street) 

Cross Street (St Mary’s Gate to Princess Street) 

John Dalton Street (Princess Street to Deansgate) 

12:30-14:30 Quay Street / Peter Street (Byrom Street to Watson Street) 

Access to premises 

Access to and from the following roads will be available via Mount Street between 11am and 4pm: 

Lloyd Street, Bootle Street, Jackson’s Row,  

Access to and from the following roads will be limited between 11am and 4pm: 

St Ann’s Street, Queen Street, South King Street, Bow Street, Ridgefield, St James Place 

Access to the following roads is available, but not via Deansgate: 

Tonman Street, Camp Street, Byrom Street, Longman Street, St John Street, Artillery Street, Quay Street,  Hardman Street, Bridge Street, Southgate,  Great Bridgewater Street. 

Access to the following roads is available, but not via Liverpool Road: 

Southern Street, Bridgewater Street, Stone Street, Duke Street, Rice Street, Lower Byrom Street. 

Parking suspensions will be in operation along all route roads. Full details can be found on our website shortly before the event www.manchesterday.co.uk 

On the day, traffic diversion signage will be in place across areas affected by road closures.  

Manchester City Council and Transport for Greater Manchester encourage all Manchester Day fun seekers to plan their journeys before the day and use public transport to travel into see the parade.  

On the Metrolink, passengers can touch in and out, families can also purchase a family travelcard to get unlimited off-peak travel throughout Metrolink zones.

Councillor Pat Karney, Chair of Manchester Day, said:  

“With Manchester Day just around the corner, we want to make sure everyone in and around the city knows what roads are closed on the day to avoid disappointment.  

“I’d advise people to plan their journey in advance and use public transport if they’re planning on coming into the city centre to join in the Manchester Day fun.”
