Saints homecoming parade

Saints homecoming parade

Following victory for both the men’s and women’s Saints teams in the Challenge Cup, an open-top bus homecoming parade has been planned for Monday 19 July to celebrate their achievements.

The parade will see two buses pass through several locations around the borough, starting at 6pm. The route can be found below.

From Monday 19 July, most national restrictions will be lifted. However, with infection rates still extremely high here in St Helens Borough, residents who turn out to show their support to the club are encouraged to play their part to help reduce the number of positive cases.

This includes:

  • Taking a lateral flow test before the parade
  • Continue to practice social distancing and avoid crowds
  • Be respectful of others who may wish to wear face coverings

St Helens Borough Council Leader David Baines said: “It’s a unique achievement for Saints to hold both the men’s and women’s Challenge Cups and speaks volumes about the efforts and desire of everyone at the club. Both teams put in brilliant performances – they are tremendous role models and fly the flag impeccably for our borough.

“It’s only right that this achievement for the club is recognised with an open-top bus parade, and with most national restrictions ending on Monday it’s perfect timing.

“This will be one of the most high-profile event to take place in St Helens borough for the past 18-months and I hope as many people as possible will be able to enjoy this special moment.

“Covid hasn’t gone away so please remember to get tested, get vaccinated when you’re offered it, and where possible keep practicing the basics like ‘hands, face, space’ to stop the virus spreading, and let’s enjoy this historic double safely.”

Saints CEO Mike Rush said: “We are hugely proud to be able to parade both of the Challenge Cup trophies together around the town.

“The support of our loyal fans is what drives us to continue to be successful and win trophies and we hope all fans can enjoy and savour the occasion.”
