Saints stars back February fitness challenge

Get on board with a training routine that is being backed by Saints stars this February.

Active St Helens is running a Buddy Boost Challenge next month which encourages people to team up with friends or family to get some exercise.

The campaign is being backed by a host of Saints stars including club captain James Roby.

He said: “I’m taking part in the St Helens Buddy Boost Challenge this February. All you have to do is buddy up with a friend and support each other to do 26 minutes of exercise a day for 26 days in a row. It can be any exercise and at less than half an hour a day it should be easy enough to fit in around your work or family. Or better still get your family involved as well.”

Even during lockdown people are being encouraged to team up virtually so that they can still complete the challenge together.

Councillor Anthony Burns, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, Culture and Heritage, said: “We know that these cold days and with gyms being closed having motivation to get active is a struggle right now for many. That is the beauty of Buddy Boost as it’s a great way to connect with others and encourage each other to do something every day. We know that physical activity has huge benefits for not just our physical health but also our mental wellbeing and during this Covid-19 pandemic it’s a simple step we can take to look after ourselves.

“We know too that by repeating an action every day it becomes a habit and by making the sessions 26 minutes long it is easy to squeeze it in to your day making it a healthy habit to carry on into the spring. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be as fit as James Roby to take part but we can all set ourselves the challenge to get that bit more active.”
