SUMMER FUN WITH KOPS ‘N’ KIDS

SUMMER FUN WITH KOPS ‘N’ KIDS

There’s plenty of sport, activity and fun with Kops ‘n’ Kids at Halton’s leisure centres this month.

Created by local police officers and PCSOs, Active Halton Leisure and supported by Onward Homes, Kops ‘n’ Kids is a five-week summer holiday scheme for 8-16 year olds at Brookvale Recreation Centre and, new this year, Kingsway Leisure Centre.

Kops stands for Keep On Playing Sport and the scheme is designed to give children from the local areas a chance to play sports, meet other kids and make connections with local police officers and organisations.

Kops ‘n’ Kids was a huge success in 2019 and has continued to grow with 100 youngsters attending each day this year, with Covid restrictions in place. Kingsway Leisure Centre has also now added to the scheme with a further two days this summer.

The scheme involves a host of activities, from football, table tennis, dance, basketball, netball and swimming to more left-field sports like archery and self-defence – all of which are completely free to all who attend.

The sessions run weekly until 27 August on the following days:

  • Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Brookvale Recreation Centre
  • Thursdays and Fridays at Kingsway Leisure Centre
  • Morning sessions 9am – 12pm, afternoons 1pm – 3pm with swimming available on a first come first served basis.

Cllr Paul Nolan, the Council’s portfolio holder for sport and leisure, says: “I went along to see Kops ‘n’ Kids for myself and I was really impressed – there’s so much for the children to do in a safe environment and they were really enjoying themselves.

“It’s a great scheme for the children, families and communities. It keeps the kids busy and active during the summer, and they meet with the officers and other local organisations in a fun and non-threatening way – well done to everyone involved!”
