‘Take one for the Team’ campaign launched

A group of Liverpool business leaders are urging local people to get vaccinated and take regular COVID tests as they look to encourage people back into city centre offices, retail outlets and hospitality venues.

Team Liverpool, a group of business influencers from across the city that includes Donna Hewitt of Liverpool ONE, Bill Addy from the Liverpool BID company, Stephen Cowperthwaite who heads Liverpool’s Mipim delegation, and Nisha Katona of Mowgli, launched the ‘Take one for the Team’ campaign.

Team Liverpool Chair, Frank McKenna of Downtown in Business, explained: “As the country starts to open up again, we recognise how important the city centre is to the economic revival of Liverpool. If we are to save jobs and ensure a ‘bounce back’ in our key visitor economy sector, it is vital that the whole ecosystem returns to town – office workers, shoppers, and visitors, indigenous and international.

“However, we are equally aware of the continued dangers of the virus and therefore we want people to come back into their offices, our shops and into our hospitality venues in a safe and secure fashion.

“That is why we are urging people to ‘Take one for the Team’. Take a vaccination. Take a test. That way, you protect yourself, your colleagues, and you make it less likely that we will suffer a further spike in infection rates and another disastrous lockdown.”

Liverpool City Council Chief Executive, Tony Reeves, added: “We want Liverpool to bounce back as strongly as possible from the pandemic.

“A combination of regular testing, getting the vaccination and staying Covid-safe will put us in the best possible position to prevent another wave of cases and help our economy thrive again.”
