Liverpool’s thousands of school staff have received a ‘thank you’ message from education chiefs in the city.
Director of Children and Young People Services, Steve Reddy and Cllr Barbara Murray, Cabinet member for education, have written to thank them for their hard work and support over the last three months.
Many staff have been involved in running 50 hubs for the children of key workers, while others have been working to keep in touch with pupils and send work home.
In the letter sent to every school, they write:
“This is a simple but short message to thank you all for your work and support over the past months. It has been nothing short of phenomenal.
“Those who work in our schools are among the unsung heroes of COVID-19: preparing resources and guidance for remote learning; providing safe places for children of key workers and vulnerable children; cleaning our schools; dropping off supplies; providing free school meal vouchers; providing sanitary products; producing PPE; connecting with children and their parents to make sure they’re OK — even while many have children of their own at home.”
They add: “Once the working world regains a degree of normality, we won’t take our essential workers for granted so much. Our staff in schools will be among these.”
The letter concludes: “There are still challenges ahead but these past months have proven what can be achieved when we all work together using those most important qualities of courage, kindness and creativity.”
All schools in the city reopened last Monday for the children of key workers and vulnerable youngsters, with phased reopening expected to start later this month.
