Three men arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary after police pursuit in Cheshire

Detectives investigating a series of moped robberies in Stockport have arrested three people

Three men are in police custody after being arrested following a pursuit from Cheshire to Stockport.

The men – aged 20, 23 and 32 – are being questioned on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

Officers were called to Moor End Road, Mellor, Stockport, at about 10pm on 30 December 2021 when three men in balaclavas entered a house armed with a machete and a baseball bat.

Fortunately, no-one at the address was injured although the male homeowner did hand over his car keys to a VW Golf, which is seen leaving soon after with a blue BMW.

A few hours later, officers from Cheshire Constabulary sighted the BMW, believed to have been stolen in Marple Bridge on 29 November, in Handforth, Cheshire.

The pursuit ended in Shaw Heath, Stockport, with three men arrested – police believe a fourth man may be outstanding.

Police believe the incidents may be linked to an attempted burglary at Woodlands Park Road, Offerton, also on 30 December.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Moyles, of GMP’s Stockport district, said: “Thanks to the swift actions of our colleagues in Cheshire, we have three men in custody and they are being questioned about a number of incidents.”
