Warrington Town Hall will be lit up as part of the #LightItBlue campaign to mark the 72nd birthday of the NHS on Sunday 5 July 2020.
Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, there has been an overwhelming show of support for the NHS and key workers across the country, as the health and social care system remains crucial in tackling coronavirus.
To continue this show of support, the council will join in with the #LightItBlue campaign to celebrate the amazing work of the NHS in Warrington to mark its 72nd birthday.
The NHS first began serving the country on 5 July 1948, in a move that revolutionised the healthcare system by ensuring everyone had access to quality healthcare.
The #LightItBlue campaign was inspired by the ‘Clap for our Carers’ movement, which showed people taking to their doorsteps to celebrate and thank key workers for their hard work and dedication to helping others.
The events and entertainment industry wanted to create a simultaneous show of support by contacting major building and landmarks across the UK to invite them to join the movement and #LightItBlue.
Council leader, Cllr Russ Bowden, said: “We want to show our gratitude to the NHS and its staff, who have risked their own health to care for others during this challenging time, as well as all council staff and other key workers, who continue to work tirelessly to keep essential services running for Warrington residents.
“Much like when we clapped for the NHS, we will #LightItBlue to show our support for the NHS, especially now as it is under increasing pressure. It is important for us to commemorate the 72 years of service we have received and reflect on how we continue to benefit from the NHS.”
