Two men charged in connection with series of car thefts

Appeal after boy has his bicycle stolen in Widnes robbery

Two men from Greater Manchester have been charged by officers investigating a series of car thefts.

Mark Strutt, of Glebe Street, Offerton, Stockport; and Alan Dunwoody, of Pewsey Road, Wythenshawe; were arrested when officers raided properties in Greater Manchester in the early hours of Thursday 8 October.

Strutt, 42, and Dunwoody, 37, have both subsequently been charged with conspiring to steal and conspiring to commit burglary.

The charges relate to the thefts of 22 cars between August 2019 and September 2020.

The vehicles were stolen from Macclesfield, Disley, Congleton, Bollington, Knutsford, Northwich, Sandbach and Warrington in Cheshire and from Stockport and Altrincham in Greater Manchester.

Strutt and Dunwoody appeared at Warrington Magistrates’ Court, via a video link, on Friday 9 October.

They were remanded in custody and are set to appear at Chester Crown Court on Friday 6 November.
