Two people arrested after serious assault in Waterloo

We can confirm that two people have been arrested following an assault in Waterloo in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 13 August.

At around 12.20am it was reported that a fight had occurred on South Road, near its junction with Brighton Road, involving several people.

During this incident, a man in his 60s was punched and sustained a serious head injury. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

A 44-year-old man from Waterloo was arrested near the scene on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent.

A 39-year-old woman from Waterloo was also arrested on suspicion of affray. Both remain in police custody.

Although two people have been arrested, we are still appealing for information to help our investigation.

Chief Inspector Lisa Ledder said: “This was a nasty assault that has left a man in hospital with a serious head injury.

“Thankfully due to the swift actions of our officers, we were able to arrest two people near to the scene and they will be questioned about the assault.

“This is a busy area of Waterloo and South Road is popular for nightlife, so we are hoping that this incident would have been witnessed by other people.

“If you saw anything to help our ongoing enquiries, please get in touch. Similarly, if you live in the area or were driving past, please check your CCTV or dashcam footage to see if you captured anything.”
