Update into the investigation launched following the stabbing of a child in Bolton.

A man who was seriously assaulted in Wythenshawe has sadly died

At around 1.20pm on Saturday 11 July 2020, police were called to Bridgeman Street in Bolton to reports that a 10-year-old boy had been stabbed. 

He was taken to hospital and has since been discharged. It has been established that the injuries were superficial.

The 18-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault has been assessed by specialist medical staff and detained under the Mental Health Act.

Detective Inspector Nathan Percival said: “I am so pleased to hear that the boy is doing well and has been discharged from hospital. We wish him all the best for a full and speedy recovery.

“This is a shocking incident which has caused distress and upset both to the victim and his family as well as within the wider community.

“I would like to reassure the public that we are continuing to treat this investigation with the upmost seriousness.
