Update: Man dies after collision in Childwall

RTC in Netherton – Arrest update

**UPDATE –  TUESDAY 24 NOVEMBER**

We can confirm that the male pedestrian injured in a collision in Childwall yesterday (Monday 23 November) was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Next of kin of the man, aged 74, have been informed.

Enquiries remain ongoing into the collision but the road closure has been lifted.

A 31-year-old man from Belle Vale was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released under investigation.

We are appealing for anyone who was in the area of at the junction of Childwall Valley Road and Hartsbourne Avenue at about 5.50pm yesterday who witnessed the collision to call 0151 777 5747 or DM @MerPolCC or @MerPolTraffic quoting incident reference 20000712750.


ORIGINAL STATEMENT

We can confirm that emergency services are in Childwall following a serious RTC this evening, Monday 23 November.

At around 5.50pm, officers and the ambulance service were called to the junction of Childwall Valley Road and Hartsbourne Avenue to reports of a BMW in collision with a male pedestrian, who was seriously injured.

A road closure is in place at the junction of Childwall Valley Road and Chelwood Avenue, and Childwall Valley Road and Barnham Drive, as we carry out an investigation. Please avoid the area where possible.
