Warrington Council remains in top quartile for processing business grants

Warrington businesses are being reassured that the council is continuing to work tirelessly to issue every penny of government Covid support grants as quickly as possible.

Since November, the council has processed 93% of more than 1,200 applications for Local Restrictions Support Grants (LRSG), handing out £1.9m in vital funding. LRSG provides funding of up to £3,000 per month for businesses required to close due to local lockdowns or targeted restrictions.

At the same time, the council has processed 85% of almost 1,500 applications for the additional restrictions grant (ARG), paying out £440,000. ARG is funding secured by the council from the government to support closed businesses and those directly impacted by the lockdown, and is administered on a discretionary basis.

The council’s benefits and exchequer team is now working hard to process and administer all remaining grant funding to eligible businesses.

The grants are taxpayer funded and therefore subject to eligibility and rigorous assessments.

Warrington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Innovation, Cllr Tom Jennings, said: “Thanks to the hard work of our indefatigable officers, with many working late nights and weekends, we are once again outperforming many other councils, with the vast majority of the latest round of grants now paid out.

“The volume of applications has made this a tough task but I’d like to reassure the remaining eligible businesses which have not yet received their grants that help is on the way. We will keep all businesses updated as soon as additional government support becomes available.”

The exact details of the business support for Warrington’s Tier 4 and January’s national lockdown have not yet been announced by the Government. It is expected that support will be made available for all businesses that are closed, with additional one-off top up support available for businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors.

Businesses who have applied to the council for support grants through the national lockdown of 5 November 2020 to 2 December 2020 do NOT need to re-apply for Business Support covering Tier 4 and January’s national Lockdown.

When details of the new grant funding becomes, the council will contact you – using your details from your previous application – to tell you what support you are eligible to receive.
