We have today, Thursday 21st October, welcomed the sentencing of a Wirral man for historical sex offences.
Following a two week trial a jury unanimously found 67 year-old Trevor Ainslie guilty of 40 separate child sex offences spanning between the mid-1970s and early 2000s.
Ainslie, of Berrylands Close, Moreton, was jailed for 28 years at Liverpool Crown Court. He was spend a further three years on extended licence.
The charges were initially brought in 2019 following an extensive investigation by Merseyside Police. A seventh victim came forward when the charges were first made public.
Detective Inspector Michael Fletcher said: “Ainslie carried out a calculating and deliberate series of assaults against his numerous victims over a number of years and has never shown any remorse or regret for his actions.
“He also denied the offences and forced his victims through the trauma of trial.
“I would like to pay tribute to his victims for their courage and bravery throughout this whole legal process and hope that today’s sentencing will finally allow them to move on with their lives with the knowledge he is behind bars where he belongs for a considerable period of time.
“Time should never be a barrier to obtaining justice. Merseyside Police takes every report of sexual offences extremely seriously, whether or not they are recent, and has dedicated officers within the force’s Unity Team who are specially trained to both thoroughly investigate allegations and make sure that those reporting them are properly supported.
“I would like to take this opportunity to reassure anyone who has suffered a sexual offence that if you can find the courage to come forward and speak to us, we will deal with you sensitively and make sure that reports are properly and thoroughly investigated.”
