Witness appeal following assault in Kirkdale

Appeal for info following attempted business burglary in Southport

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and dashcam following an assault in Kirkdale last month.

At around 11pm on Tuesday 22 June, the victim was a passenger in his friend’s Audi Q2, waiting at traffic lights on Derby Road at the junction of Bankhall Street, travelling towards Liverpool. One of occupants of the Audi looked towards a black Hackney cab which pulled alongside. The passengers of the taxi challenged him and both exited their respective vehicles.

A fight broke out, and the victim was assaulted with an unknown sharp implement, causing facial and neck injuries.

The taxi drove off, leaving the suspects to run off up Bankhall Street, and the victim returned to the Audi and was driven off. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and he is now recovering at home from his injures.

Enquiries to trace the taxi driver have so far been negative.

Detective Inspector Ben Dyer said: “This appears to have been a completely unprovoked attack which resulted in injuries and was a distressing experience for the victim and his friends.

“We’re very keen to speak to the taxi driver who drove off, and anyone who witnessed the incident and may have captured this, descriptions of the men, or indeed the taxi details on dashcam, CCTV or other devices.”
