Young entrepreneur baking up a storm in the Woolto City

At the young age of 22, entrepreneur Millie from Woolton has made history in the City with her cupcake van which was also the first street licence granted In 30 years to trade at Sefton Park.  Through lockdown Millie like many others took regular walks in Sefton Park and she saw a gap in the market for a cupcake van. She then researched extensively and applied for a licence in early 2021, which was granted in July. Millie wasted no time in sourcing and branding her van and 17 days later took to Sefton park for her first day trading.

Millie started baking at 16, whilst doing her GCSE’s as she found baking helped relieve the stress of exams and was an enjoyable break from studying. She often baked for friends and family and through word of mouth her business started to grow at a rapid rate, so much so by the time she was in college she had an Instagram page set up to showcase her fabulous bakes and was taking orders daily.

After Millie finished college, she was offered a place at University but decided not to go and pursued her dream to have her own bakery business, Millie’s Cupcakes & Bakery.  Millie expanded her cupcake offering now to celebration cakes, blondies, brownies and cookies in a variety of exciting designs and styles, differentiating herself from her competition, whilst creating a fun, recognisable brand in the industry. In order to meet the demand of orders received, as Millie had outgrown her parents’ kitchen, and also the extra work space her parents had specifically built for her, she embarked on a hunt to find the right premises.

In April 2021 Millie found the perfect space in L13, a unit on Mill Lane.  Having this space allowed Millie to triple her order intake and also cater for weddings and events.

Her second unit in Sefton Park is already proving popular with the locals and she’s built a strong customer base in just months. At the van she offers hot drinks, freshly baked croissants, her renowned cupcakes, brownies, cookies and blondies and sells out at weekends!

‘I have also just secured my 3rd unit, which I’m extremely excited about as its in a prime location in the Alfresco area of the Hilton in Liverpool City Centre. I am hoping to grow the business further in 2022 by having retail units in other cities throughout the North West. I really am so grateful to all those who have helped me along the way to turn my dream into a reality and I am working on a project that will give other small businesses the opportunities I have been so grateful to have.’

Millie has an impressive following on Instagram and has become the go to baker with many influencers and local celebrities.
