Man charged with four offences following incident in Widnes

Detectives investigating an incident in Warrington are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

At 7.45am on Tuesday 11 May a 16-year-old girl was forced into the back of a silver car by a young man.

The incident occurred outside a convenience store on Cherry Lane.

The girl has been located, she is safe and well and didn’t sustain any injuries. 

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and has since been released on conditional bail.

Detective Constable Sophie Davies, of Warrington Local Policing Unit, said: “I want to reassure the public that this was a targeted incident and the male was known to the girl.

“Since it was reported to police we have been following a number of lines of enquiry to establish the circumstances around what exactly has taken place.

“As part of that we believe a number of people were present at the time it took place and may have seen what occurred and I am encouraging them to come forward and get in touch with us.

“In particular a man who is believed to have been walking a dog at the time and challenged the man while it was occurring. If this is you please do contact us.”
