Liverpool is expanding is sporting portfolio with a new football-based sport.
The FITEQ (Federation Internationale de Teqball) has donated two teqball tables to Liverpool which will be located at the Simpson Football Hub in Hunts Cross and the Jeffrey Humble Football and Fitness Hub at Long Lane.
Teqball is a football-based sport – played on a specially curved table – attracting a new generation of athletes and amateur enthusiasts. It was invented in 2012 by three Hungarian football enthusiasts.
Teqball has become the fastest recognised sport in the world. The European Olympic Committees (EOC) announced an agreement with FITEQ that will see teqball included in the programme of the European Games in 2023 for the first time.
Gergely Murányi Head of Diplomatic Relations of FITEQ said:
“Teqball is a sport which can be played anytime and anywhere, indoor and outdoor, regardless of age and gender. The initiative of a donation is part of FITEQ’s ongoing effort to drive the growth of the sport globally. A number of world-class footballershave been attracted by the game such as the Brazilian ex-footballer Ronaldinho, one of the ambassadors of teqball.
“As Liverpool is incredibly passionate about football, we believe there is a huge opportunity to introduce teqball to more people and inspire the next generation of teqers in Liverpool to become a part of the global teqball family.”
Ms Krisztina Kátai-Nagy, Consul General of Hungary, Manchester said:“The Consulate General of Hungary in Manchester aims to further enhance political, business, cultural and sport ties between Hungary and the UK.
“It is a significant part of our cultural mission to promote the very best of Hungarian innovations to a wide audience in the UK. We are glad to present the Teqball to the city with rich football traditions.”
