Cheshire Constabulary launches its first Community Conversation event in Congleton

Cheshire Constabulary is launching its first Community Conversation event in Congleton this week.

The event is the first of its type and will take place at 7pm on Thursday 23 June 2022 at St John’s Community Centre, Buglawton.

The event will be the beginning of a conversation which includes the communities within Congleton where people can discuss what is currently available in the community and where they want the community to be in the future.

This will include community offerings, preventing crime, clubs, individual support groups etc.

With the help of the local community we want to ensure that the community understands what is currently available for them to use, where any gaps or needs are and how we can fill those gaps.

Congleton Inspector Jim Adams said:

“It is great that the first Community Conversation event is going to be launched in Congleton. I am really looking forward to working with those who attend and building the community spirit in the local area.

“New ideas are always listened to, and this is the perfect chance for a resident or someone within the community can put their thoughts forward to the group.”

The event will kickstart the process of a £10,000 investment in communities in the Congleton Local Policing Unit area.

The Community Cashback Fund has been launched by Police and Crime Commissioner, John Dwyer, with money seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act, and will allow residents the chance to submit applications and then vote on what community projects should be funded further down the line.

John Dwyer, Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, said:

“I’m delighted that Congleton is set to host the first of many Community Conversations that will give local people a real say on the future of their area.

“If you have an idea for improving your local community, now is the time to bring it to the table. It will be great to hear the ideas and aspirations that people have for Congleton, and to see how we can work together to make them a reality.”

The event is open to anyone who has an interest in the Congleton local community.
