Detectives investigating the death of 16-year-old Rhamero West in Trafford on Thursday 9 September are piecing together a series of collisions and violent disorder that occurred in South Manchester prior to his death.
Between 5.30 and 5.50pm GMP received multiple reports of collisions predominately involving a grey BMW and a blue BMW, as well as reports of armed males fighting.
The vehicles are reported to have caused multiple fail-to-stop collisions whilst travelling along Great Western Street before turning onto Princess Road.
Whilst on Princess Road, the blue BMW was seen to be swerving in and out of traffic whilst attempting to avoid two males on foot. As the blue BMW came to a stop a male plunged a knife through the driver’s window whilst the other male attempted to smash the passenger side window.
A male was also believed to be in possession of a firearm whilst on Princess Road; however detectives now believe this to have been an imitation firearm.
In an attempt to flee the scene via Moss Lane East the BMW subsequently collided with another vehicle before travelling in the direction of Upper Chorlton Road.
Both the blue and grey BMW travelled against the traffic along the road before the blue BMW collided with a tree. The occupants, a group of males including Rhamero, fled on foot and were pursued by two other males who had exited the grey vehicle.
Following this, 16-year-old Rhamero was fatally stabbed on Norton Street, Trafford.
Detective Chief Inspector Liz Hopkinson of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This has been complex investigation but our detectives are working at pace as we continue to identify and pursue those we believe to have been involved in these incidents.
“All these incidents occurred in daylight hours on busy roads and we’re confident there are people out there that witnessed these events unfold. I cannot stress how important it is for those in possession of dash-cam footage, CCTV footage or information to get in touch with police as this could prove vital in identifying those responsible.
“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who has footage of the vehicles or disorder around the Princess Road area and I urge anyone you to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency. A family has lost a young son and they rightfully and desperately deserve answers. Do the right thing and come forward.”
