Further consultation to ask local people their views on the plans for Ardwick Green

A new consultation has started today giving Manchester people the chance to be part of the Ardwick Green Story.

An initial survey over the summer invited local people to give their thoughts on the principles Ardwick Green Neighbourhood Development Framework.

Now a full public consultation will gather local people’s views to capture their priorities for future development, which will then act as a guide for any investment in the area in the coming years.

Affordable housing is a key tenet of the Ardwick approach, helping to meet demand for new high quality affordable housing, close to the city that Manchester people can access and lay down roots – encouraging people to remain in the area long-term to build a strong, lasting community.

Ardwick has a fascinating history – with key links back to the industrial revolution – and therefore has an eclectic mix of architecture revolving around the central public Ardwick Green park.

The consultation will ask how this green space – along with other emerging green spaces in the neighbourhood – can be better used in the future, and how the community can be better connected to the rest of the city.

Already within walking distance of Piccadilly train station, along with major development at Mayfield (as well as HS2), Ardwick has a huge amount of potential that can be maximised in line with the regeneration of neighbouring areas – and will complement the continuing regeneration effort of nearby Brunswick.

Currently an area characterised by a range of different uses, with a range of smaller, defined areas, the vision for Ardwick is to celebrate the different parts of the area but bring together the neighbourhood with a holistic approach, centred around the community.

There will also be Covid-safe online events in December.

Registration for the events is in the consultation pages:

– 15th December 2020 at 6pm
– 12th January 2021 at 11am

The consultation will close on 31st January.

Cllr Suzanne Richards, Manchester City Council’s executive member for housing and regeneration, said: “Ardwick Green contains some real hidden gems of Georgian heritage and is situated between the Mayfield and Brunswick regeneration areas. This draft framework is the next piece in the regeneration jigsaw and seeks to secure the future of Ardwick Green and its community.

“It has been developed in consultation with residents and businesses and rightly puts zero carbon, affordable housing and connectivity front centre.  We want residents, businesses, and stakeholders to engage with us once more and make sure that the draft vision for the future of their area reflects the needs of those who live and work there and responds to the challenges they set out for us at the outset of this process.”
