Pocket knives and pepper spray as woman arrested as part of Op tackling weapon importation

Officers tackling the importation of weapons into south Manchester have arrested a woman and seized pocket knives and pepper spray after a warrant yesterday (Thursday 14 October).

Our District Tasking Team executed a warrant in the Wythenshawe area of the city after information from the Metropolitan Police was received regarding an online store selling pockets knives disguised as keys and pepper spray – a section 5 firearm – in Manchester.

A 20-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of selling an offensive weapon and possessing or distributing prohibited weapons designed for discharge of noxious substances.

She was questioned in custody before being released under investigation as enquiries continue.

The action is the latest as part of GMP’s bid to tackle the importation of weapons into the region – codenamed Operation Concept.

Anyone with information about the supply and distribution of such weapons should contact police online, if able, or via 101 quoting Op Concept.

Details can be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
