Detective Sergeant Phil Bainbridge, of GMP’s Trafford district, said: “This was a shocking incident that has, understandably, left the victim shaken. Thankfully, she was not seriously injured. We are doing everything we can to support her.

“We understand that incidents like this cause concern within communities but there are police officers in the area and I encourage anyone who is worried to approach them.

“Enquires are well underway but I would like to use this opportunity to appeal to anyone with information to pass it on without delay. Were you in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious? Particularly two males loitering?”
