The family of a woman who died in a house fire in Gorton has written a poem in her memory

Family of Sandra Hughes say their mum will ‘never be forgotten’ in poem, composed in her memory.

Shortly before 2.30am Tuesday morning (13 July 2021), police were called by the fire service to reports of a fire at an address on Darras Road in Manchester.

Emergency services attended and a woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. She was later named as 63-year-old Sandra Hughes.

Sandra’s family paid tribute to her in a poem:

“Sandra, you left this world so quickly, no time to say goodbye
You were gone before we knew it, and we all still wonder why

Our hearts still ache in sadness, and secret tears will flow,
what it meant to lose you no one can ever know.

You’ll never be forgotten, we pledge to you today,
a hallowed place within our hearts is where you’ll always stay.

Rest In Peace xx”

A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of her murder. He remains in custody.

A 33-year-old woman previously arrested on suspicion of murder and was released under investigation.
