Two arrested after firearm recovered during stop check

We arrested two men after a firearm was recovered during a stop check in Litherland yesterday, Tuesday 23rd November.

Officers on patrol stopped a van on Dunningsbridge Road at around 11.25am and recovered a handgun.

A 34 year-old man and a 33 year-old man were arrested on suspicion of possession of a section one firearm and have been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

The firearm has been recovered for forensic examination.

Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald from the Firearms Investigation Team said: “The recovery of any firearm means it can no longer be used to cause fear in our communities.

“If you suspect that weapons are being stored, carried or used where you are, please let us know. You can contact us directly or anonymously via Crimestoppers but however you get the information to us, we will take action.”
