CHS South pupils collect their exam results
Students at schools across Manchester have collected their GCSE results today, their achievements coming off the back of repeated lockdowns and other disruptions to their education during Covid.
Councillor Garry Bridges, Executive Member for Early Year, Children and Young People, Manchester City Council, said: “Things have been far from easy for young people over the last few years and everyone collecting their exam results today should be proud of themselves.
“Well done to everyone who got what they needed to move on to the next stage of their education. For those who didn’t, don’t panic – there’s always a way forward.
“The important thing now is to speak to your school and get the advice and support you need to help you work out your next steps.”
For one school in south Manchester today marks their first-ever GCSE results day.
Chorlton High School South first opened its doors in 2018 and despite the unexpected challenges of Covid that the school had to face so soon after opening, results at the school have outstripped national expectations in a number of subjects, including maths, English and science.
The school is also celebrating outstanding outcomes for its students in arts GCSE subjects and in PE.
David Prophet, Headteacher CHS South, said: “I’m so proud of our pupils and the results they’ve achieved. All we ever wanted for them as the first-ever students to sit GCSEs at the school was to see them fulfil the incredible potential we could see in them.
“To see them succeed in so many exceptional ways, from students with strings of grade 9s, to students making progress well beyond their own initial expectations, is a testament to them and to our ambitious staff team for all their hard work in supporting our students to achieve the very best they can.”
