Man arrested following incident in Newton-le-Willows

We have arrested a man following an incident in Newton-le-Willows in the early hours of this morning (Monday 22 March).  At around 3am, we received reports that two men were involved in an altercation on Water Street, Newton-le-Willows.  Emergency services attended and a 24-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.  A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 Assault. He was taken into custody and will be questioned by police.  Officers remain at the scene while forensic enquiries are carried out.  Detective Inspector Leanne Hobin said: “This was an appalling attack leaving a man hospitalised with serious injuries.  “I would like to reassure the community that we have one man in custody and the investigation is ongoing.” Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 21000181619.  ENDS
