Old Swan Clubs and Groups Awarded Funding in Community Event

On Saturday, 9 July, local clubs, and groups who support the community of Old Swan, came together to bid for funding as part of a participatory budget event.

The event, run by the Old Swan local policing team, with support from Project Medusa and Everton in the Community, was aimed at strengthening community resilience and saw bids for funding from 21 community groups.

Each group was able to bid for up to £1500 and bids came in from a variety of different groups and clubs from cadets to boxing clubs to Deaf Active.

Each applicant faced an audience made up of nearly 100 members of the community, and presented their ideas, with the community deciding who was successful.

Local Policing Sergeant Jen Bullivant said: “It has been fantastic to see the community of Old Swan coming together for this event.

“Our aim is to ultimately strengthen the community by supporting these local clubs and groups, which in turn helps to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and support vulnerable members of the community.

“The whole process has helped build relationships between residents, the police, and our community partners. The successful bids will undoubtedly make a big difference to the community. With so many bids being made, there were going to be ideas that weren’t funded, but whilst this is disappointing for the applicants, we hope the experience has still been positive one for all, because of the strong community networks that are being built.”
