Operation Cedar launches to help tackle issues facing our communities

Today (Friday 16th April 2021) marks the launch of Operation Cedar, which will see our Special Constabulary Officers regularly deployed across the Liverpool area to deal with anti-social behaviour, serious violence and acquisitive crime.

The Special Constabulary are volunteers from our local community and are fully warranted police officers, dedicating their spare time to supporting Merseyside Police and keeping our communities safe.

Operation Cedar will take place during the busiest periods of the week and will utilise evidence-based tactics to disrupt and respond to local problems – providing a reassuring presence in our local areas.

Supt Diane Pownall, Liverpool Community Superintendent, said: “The Special Constabulary are key to us engaging with our communities, and they bring a wealth of skill and experience from their own lives to support our wider, extensive policing plans.

“This is a great initiative which will see our Special Constabulary colleagues focus on issues that are impacting the local community, and I’m sure they will make a real difference.”

You can follow the progress of the team on Twitter and Facebook, with the hashtag #OpCedar.
