Free webinar talking about mental health, money and debt

Warrington Borough Council, in conjunction with neighbouring Halton Council, will be holding a joint webinar about mental health, money and debt on Wednesday 17 February.

1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem in any given year, a significant number of us will also experience money problems. Many of us are too afraid to talk about this.

The free webinar this Wednesday, 17 February, will be encouraging people to break down barriers and to challenge stigma relating to both mental health problems and debt.

It is aimed at front line workers, volunteers and members of the public in Runcorn, Widnes and Warrington. During the event the speakers will explore the complex relationship between mental health and money, and will focus on the link between mental health problems and financial difficulties.

Halton and Warrington Citizens Advice will present local data, to highlight how requests for financial advice have changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. A fifteen minute question and answer section, at the end of the webinar, will give people attending the opportunity to engage with the presenters and to ask questions. As well as challenging stigma and opening up a discussion about debt and mental health, the event aims to raise awareness of where people can go for money and debt advice.

Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, cabinet member for public health, wellbeing and housing said: “Mental health is a topic that we should all feel able to talk about, especially now when more people are struggling with their mental health due to the coronavirus pandemic and financial difficulties.

“We encourage anyone whose mental health has suffered due to financial issues or debt to take part in the webinar. There are also many local and national services and charities that help people who are struggling that you can access using our Happy Ok Sad website.”

The event will be held online, from 2pm-3pm on Wednesday 17 February. You can find more details and book on to the webinar via Eventbrite.
