Liverpool’s Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for culture, tourism and events Councillor Wendy Simon, has released a statement about this year’s Christmas Markets and the extended festive lighting programme city centre visitors can enjoy .
Councillor Wendy Simon, said “After weeks of consultation with our markets operator, they have made the understandable decision to cancel this year’s Christmas Markets at St George’s Hall plateau. The hugely complex challenges they faced due to the ongoing health pandemic means it simply isn’t logistically or practically feasible for the event to go ahead. We look forward to working with them in 2021 on a significantly expanded Christmas market.
“The majority of shops and leisure venues remain open, so to provide some festive cheer for people spending time in the city centre, we have worked closely with partners to produce an extended lighting programme which will illuminate a trail from the Town Hall all the way up to Chinatown. And for the first time, Christmas lights will also line Hope Street, connecting our two majestic cathedrals and bringing some much-needed brightness and hope to the city.”
