Liverpool’s green waste service will resume its fortnightly garden waste collection service from Monday, May 11.
Households are being asked to put out their green bins (no side waste will be taken) as per their original schedules.
The collection is a free service that is offered to 175,000 households in the city by Liverpool Streetscene Services Ltd (LSSL).
It begins each February after an annual suspension over the winter, however, the decision was made by the council to suspend all further collections as of Monday 23 March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to reduced numbers of staff – as many had been in self-isolation – LSSL was forced to prioritise the collection of household and clinical waste over green waste.
Refuse collection teams have collected waste from 279,000 bins each week, despite having reduced staff.
The service is already running at reduced capacity due to COVID-19, so residents are reminded that when the green collections resume, only the green bin itself will be collected. Additional green waste left near the bin will not be collected.
Liverpool’s two household waste recycling centres at Old Swan and Otterspool have re-opened and are offering a restricted service.
Residents are urged to use them only if absolutely necessary.
Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Highways, Cllr Sharon Connor said: “It was essential that we prioritise household, recycling and clinical collections during the past few months. “Thank you to residents for co-operating as we know that this has been a tough time and a pause in providing this service has been inconvenient for some people.
“We would ask all residents who use this service to refer to their original schedule and continue to work with us. We would remind everyone that waste left outside our centres or anywhere else is classed as fly-tipping and is a criminal offence.
“We would like to thank all residents for their continued patience and understanding.”
