Mayor wishes Warrington’s Muslims a Happy Eid

As Warrington’s Muslims join millions across the globe in Eid celebrations, marking the end of Ramadan, the Mayor of Warrington Cllr Wendy Johnson is asking people to celebrate virtually due to the current social distancing measures.

Traditionally, the festival at the end of the fasting month of Ramadan is marked with communal prayers in mosques, and visits to friends and family. This year however due to coronavirus restrictions, Eid celebrations will not be going ahead as normal.

Cllr Johnson said: “Eid al-Fitr is such a significant religious holiday and I wish a Happy Eid to all those who will be celebrating this weekend, albeit in a different way.

“Coronavirus has impacted so many aspects of normal life in ways that three or four months ago we wouldn’t have even considered.

“I hope that despite the challenges COVID-19 has posed to all of our communities celebrating Eid, that you still have a wonderful time with your friends and family – even if that means having to celebrate with them online and in different ways.”
