A public broadcast via the council website will take place tomorrow, Tuesday 27 October, at 5pm in light of Warrington’s move to a ‘very high risk’ local COVID alert level (tier 3).
The broadcast will be conducted by the Leader of the Council, Cllr Russ Bowden, and the council’s Chief Executive, Professor Steven Broomhead MBE. They will be discussing how the decision to move Warrington into Tier 3 was made, what the new guidance and restrictions mean for residents and what the current case numbers in the town are.Watch the livestream at 5pm, Tuesday 27 October
From tomorrow, 00.01am on Tuesday 27 October, Warrington will move into Tier 3. Last week, the council and government agreed a support package for businesses in the town, with a funding arrangement also agreed for the council’s continued public health effort.
Cllr Bowden said: “Moving into Tier 3 is an important next step in helping to address our stubbornly high case numbers and is another challenge we will overcome together. I really want to thank the people of Warrington who have given up ‘normality’ over the last seven months – following the guidance and restrictions may very well be the reason someone else is alive today.
“To this end, in tomorrow’s broadcast, I will make clear the current position in Warrington and our hospital, what going into Tier 3 means for our town and why it is so important we all keep playing our vital role in preventing the spread of the virus.”
Warrington’s move to a ‘very high’ risk area means that from tomorrow:
- You must not socialise with anybody you don’t live with, unless you have formed a household or childcare support bubble, in any indoor setting or venue – including homes or restaurants
- You must not socialise with anybody you don’t live with, unless you have formed a household or childcare support bubble, in any private garden, or at most outdoor hospitality venues and ticketed events
- You must not socialise in a group of more than six in an outdoor public space, like parks
- Pubs and bars that do not serve substantial meals as a restaurant, like a main lunchtime or evening meal, must close
- You should avoid travelling outside Warrington wherever possible – only essential journeys, such as for work or caring responsibilities, should be made
- You should avoid staying overnight in another part of the UK
