Warrington Borough Council will be joining National Day of Reflection

Warrington Borough Council will be joining a national minute’s silence at 12 noon today, Tuesday 23 March, to reflect on the anniversary of the UK’s first coronavirus lockdown and those who have died or been severely affected by the virus.

Following the minute’s silence, there will also be a doorstep vigil at 8pm to end a day of reflection and remembrance, as Warrington and beyond will commemorate those we have lost at the hands of coronavirus and those whose lives have been drastically altered by the pandemic.

In Warrington, more than 550 people have died due to the coronavirus, and many more families, communities and livelihoods have been acutely impacted.

Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Maureen Creaghan, said: “I encourage as many of our residents as possible to join in the moment’s reflection at noon, to remember those who have been taken by the virus but also to give thought to the millions of people who have been bereaved.

“Today, the first anniversary of the UK’s first lockdown, is an opportune time to reflect on our collective loss and hope for brighter days ahead of us as the vaccine programme continues to be delivered.

“Warrington will have many heart-breaking stories to share and I know our communities will need time to heal. Today, I hope we can share a collective moment to pay tribute to those we have lost and, if you know someone who is going through a bereavement or who has been impacted by the virus, please reach out to them. We will get through the final phase of this pandemic together.”

The National Day of Reflection has been arranged by Marie Curie, with more information available at: mariecurie.org.uk/get-involved/day-of-reflection
